Privacy policy
Last updated June 2026. Kernel, built by American Research Foundry, connects universities and their faculty to federal research funding. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to the minimum the service needs.
Information we collect
When you apply for a pilot or get in touch, we collect what you send us — your name, role, institution, email, and details about your research office and faculty. To surface funding matches, we also analyze publicly available scholarly information, such as publications, past awards, and faculty profiles. We collect basic, aggregate analytics about how this site is used.
How we use information
We use it to match faculty research to funding opportunities, to shape and submit proposals, to run and improve pilots, and to respond to you. We do not use it for advertising.
How we share information
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us operate Kernel, with your institution as part of delivering the service, and where the law requires it.
Faculty information
Funding matches draw on publicly available research records. If you are a faculty member and would like your information reviewed or removed from our matching, contact us and we will handle it.
Retention and security
We keep information only as long as we need it to provide the service, and we protect it with reasonable administrative and technical safeguards.
Your choices
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you. Reach out through the application form and we will respond.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Kernel evolves. The date above reflects the latest version.
